There are 8 projects in Fayoum for land reclamation, and cultivating with a total
area of 3769 feddan. The area is located at the end of the governorate and is examined experts since water needed for the irrigation is still not available.
Projects for land reclamation are located as follows:

1-Kota area:
an area of 6,000 feddan . Investment studies & documents are conducted & sponsored by the Italian aid
2-Karoun area:
2,500 feddan.
3-Koum Ousheem north and east bahr wahbey:
an area of 9,000 feddan .Studies concerning its reclamation are conducted & sponsored by the Japanese aid
4-Wadi Alrayan area:
an area of 10,000 feddan whose reclamation is sponsored by the supreme authority for investment.                

Animal resources

Raw materials and resources provide good opportunities for investment in Fayoum. Investment projects based on animal resources are distributed all over the governorate.

  • Pebble
    It is extracted as layers from El Qatraney Mountain.
  • Delomite
    It's extracted from El Qatraney Mountain, Qasr el Sagha. It is used for manufacturing of steel

  • Basalt

  • Lime stone:
    It's extracted from Kouta, Qaroun& it 's used in the manufacturing of steel, cement, bricks, papers glass, polishing rice, building, mosaieque , and paving
  • Petrol:
    Oil wells are discovered in the north of Qaroun Lake, east and west of Wady el
    Rayan , the south of Qaroun lake. Production per day is estimated to be 2000 barrel, while reserves are about 5.6 million-barrel

Habitation

The investment in the habitation field varies, in Fayoum, as the total area of the governorate is 6,068.7 km2.
The inhabited area has a total of 1,849.34 km2 with a percentage that is not to exceed 30.48% of the available area in Fayoum.
The population intensity to the total area is 345,75 per square kilometer.
The population intensity to the inhabited area is 1134,41 per square kilometer.
This shows that the investment in this field is promising. The governorate is in need for it, and the required spaces are available.

The suggested fields, for investments are:
1-The building of residential and industrial communities in : New Fayoum city, and Hawara Al Maktaa’ area. The desert area that is 12 km south east of Fayoum city, has been chosen to be the New Fayoum city, as a city related to Fayoum to absorb the expected increase in the mother city. The philosophy of planning in Fayoum depends upon.
- The transfer of the axis of construction development to the desert areas, away from the agricultural land, in order to reduce the present pressure, on the public facilities, also to redistribute the habitation map of the governorate probably.
- Giving these new communities the chance to succeed, either by reallocating the present activities and providing spaces for them, or by adding new activities that contribute effectively in creating real and new work opportunities, which will ensure the stability of the residents.
- The creation of a new community that is suitable environmentally, and well prepared from the service side, has all the success factors, so the New Fayoum city is qualified enough to absorb the increase in population, of the Mother city.
- The total area of the city is 1300 feddan, 200 feddan of them are allocated to be green areas. It is expected that the new city will contain 100,000 population till the year 2015.

3-Establishment of cement, pink, heat bricks factories. Expanding the tafla bricks industry and ceramics.
4-Establishing tiles and stairs factories with all of their kinds.
